I liked these signs..
Looking down upon this sort of thing requires the occasional reminder to oneself that this is Earth..
Sitting at the edge of one of the seven natural wonders of the world is so far beyond words. I could say breathtaking, or awe-inspiring or exhilarating, but none of these words quite capture the feeling of being dwarfed by this monumental hole in the earth. Lyz and I both sat on the outer rim and pondered its existence and how unfathomably long it took for such a landscape to form. What might it have been like millions of years ago when the dinosaurs roamed this earth? And what of the Colorado River when it carved out the canyon in its primeval days, now seemingly reduced to a brownish little trickle in the distance? It all looks as if it tells a story without words, like a petroglyph that came into being of its own accord.
:)
I finally remembered and found the time to finish uploading some pictures from our epic road trip. This blog isn’t finished yet!
Anyway, reflecting back on this picture (among many others that I will be uploading at this sitting) makes me feel a little bit glum. I guess that’s the word I’m looking for. I wouldn’t say I’m sad really, but I really miss the open road and the careless freedom we experienced together. This truly was the adventure of a lifetime. I really hope to do something like this again before too long. -Sean
